Why we love customer reviews
27-07-2016
It a recent survey, 61% of customers have expressed that they read online reviews before making a purchasing decision. Not only for buying online but also for pre-empting shopping in store.
Consumer reviews are also significantly more trusted than descriptions that come from manufacturers, a report suggested that this figure can be to up to a staggering 12 times more.
Reassurance has a powerful influence when we are buying something unknown. It’s encouraging to see other customers researching the same issues and provide valuable insight. It’s helpful when we simply can’t make up our mind and need to eliminate doubts and concerns when a product has so many variants of a similar type.
In the hospitality sector this has become standard practice, driven by the growing significance of Tripadvisor. This reviews site solely allows customers to give their feedback and rate their experience. It is easy to see why the reviewing culture, that links very noticeably to business sites is not only very effective, but in some cases, if you’re not in, you’re not seen at all.
Alternatives to this are Gogobot, TripExpert and Localeur but these tend to be a mix of market experts with customer infusion. Tripadvisor has always managed to stay on top as our ability to have our say continues to resonate and more often, is more happily accepted.
In fact statistics reveal that 47% of Britons have reviewed products online, which suggests there is no shortage of people ready to provide their opinions. With social media including YouTube and Facebook being the largest platforms where we like to share these views too.
This is probably the closest thing we get to traditional word-of-mouth which has always proven to be a successful method of referral advertising. It often brings out the advocate in us too, for certain shops, restaurants, products, brands etc that we like to wax lyrical about when we enjoy a great experience or something that does what it says it does on the tin!
Adding replies and demonstrating action when necessary, is vital, not only to the customer but for future review readers. Turning around a disappointing review can be just effective to potential customers as the upbeat ones.
Customer experience is a subject on every retailer’s lips these days and so the feedback they are provided with is invaluable. It’s paramount to stay in tune with what each customer likes, and equally what they don’t like. While ensuring that what’s being offered, solves a customer’s problem or fulfils a need. When the experience is right, a positive customer outlook is created and where loyalty is likely to follow.
At Shopfitting Warehouse, we are so proud of what our customers have to say about how much they love our products and the great service they have received from us.
