Good news for rescue horses

03-06-2015

"Rehoming figures are better than ever" says Britain’s largest horse rescue and rehoming charity. To date World Horse Welfare has rehomed 250 horses –"that’s a 56% rise from last year when the charity had only rehomed 160." Cases of neglect, abandonment and cruelty to horses and donkeys has soared, so it is reassuring to know that huge efforts are being made by welfare organisations to re-home horses and to get treatment for their illnesses and injuries. At SCH, we decided to 'adopt' some horses and ponies to help, in our own small way. 'The Gangsters' are a little mob of Shetland Ponies, residing in a Redwings rescue centre. These cheeky chappies are very popular with visitors, so if you happen to see them, please give them a carrot each from us. We also adopted Rosie, the Suffolk Punch, who lives at Northcote Heavy Horse Centre in Lincolnshire. At the other end of the scale to the little Gangsters, Rosie stands at about 17 hands, and is a gentle giant. We recommend adopting a horse, pony or donkey from any equine charity - these lovely creatures need our help, and for us, every time we look at photographs of our adoptees, they bring smiles to our faces.
