Every spring, we share advice on raised humidity and the issues it causes with carpets not drying properly, leading to unpleasant odours. However, this same problem can occur during the winter months as well!

This is particularly common in unheated rental properties, where carpets are cleaned, the door is shut behind you, and there is no heat or ventilation to assist with drying.

What Should You Do?

• Never re-clean – this only adds more moisture, making the problem worse.
• The best solution is to spray the carpet with Envirosafe and install a small dehumidifier and a fan (if electricity is available).
• If drying conditions are poor, consider using a low moisture encapsulation cleaning method instead.

By following these steps, you can prevent musty smells and ensure carpets dry effectively, even in challenging winter conditions.
