New Pound Coin – Time to change your Trolley Locks?

15-08-2018

The Royal Mint are introducing a new secure £1 coin in March 2017 with a six month transition phase until all existing £1 coins are removed from circulation. The change is because the Royal Mint estimates that one in every thirty existing £1 coin is counterfeit. The two major £1 trolley lock brands, Systec and Ronis, have both manufactured new locks that accept both the existing and new twelve sided design. This will cover the transition phase and on-going use as customers will continue to have the charity trolley tokens in the existing £1 coin shape. Systec have produced a new cartridge that replaces the existing one. With a simple tool the red section of the Smartloc can be removed and the new cartridge inserted. This system keeps the costs of changing the lock to a minimum as the main lock casing and chains do not need to be changed or even removed from the trolley. Systec is the main lock we use at Formbar on our new and used trolleys. Since July this year the majority of trolley locks shipped from Formbar on new trolleys have been of the updated Systec design and so will accept both £1 coin designs. DOM-UK representing the Ronis brand in the UK has a new design MONaro trolley lock available that will accept both £1 designs. This new lock retains the ARO key design so it is compatible with existing lock installations and the patented clamp system makes assembly as easy as possible. The vast majority of Formbar trolleys in use will have the Systec Smartloc fitted but a few will use Ronis where we were matching to a current fleet or where the size of trolley dictated the need for an alternative. Formbar have a DIY package available to retailers to update their own trolley locks. Alternatively we can arrange an engineer site visit to fully service the trolleys and change the lock over. Prices start at just £3.75 per trolley for a full service which is a very inexpensive way of extending their life. Our small and knowledgeable sales team are ready to discuss the options with you.
