Your checklist of back to School supplies

11-09-2015

Whether they’ve gone by in the blink of an eye or they’ve felt like the longest six weeks of your life, the summer holidays have now come to an end and it’s time for children up and down the country to head back to the classroom. If your little ones are about to go back to school – or if they’re starting school for the very first time – here’s a quick checklist to help make sure you and your children are ready for the start of the school year. Pens Even though a lot of classrooms are switching to ‘smart’ learning, pens are still an integral part of any child’s back to school kit. Some schools have specific rules about which pens and pencils can be used in the classroom, so check with your child’s teacher before you invest in a new stationary set. Erasers Everyone makes mistakes once in a while. Having a new eraser on hand to rub out or Tipp-ex over any spelling or mathematical errors will help your little scholar to keep their notes neat and their homework easy to understand. Shoes A good pair of shoes won’t just help your child to look smart, they will also help to ensure that they are comfortable and happy all day long. If possible, try to break in new shoes before the first day of term to ensure there are no blisters or sore spots in the classroom. Whiteboards Keeping track of homework deadlines can be tough, especially for pupils starting school for the first time. Bring a whiteboard into your home and encourage your children to make a note of their deadlines and assignments. That way, you’ll know when everything is due and they’ll be able to quickly and easily see which pieces of homework are the most urgent. Plus you can wipe it clean and start again every few weeks so no more excuses for late or forgotten homework - even the dog can’t eat a whiteboard! Bag A good quality bag that’s big enough to carry school supplies and comfortable enough to prevent backache is a must for all children returning to the classroom. Coat Though the summer may have only just come to an end, a warm and waterproof winter coat is already a back to school essential. Opt for a jacket with a built in hood and easy to use fastener to give your kids maximum protection from the elements.
